Description: The Opinel knife has long been a feature of everyday French culture. It was invented by Joseph Opinel in about 1895. The company is still run by the Opinel family. This ingenious knife has become well known throughout the world for its elegant, durable simplicity. In fact, the Opinel knife was featured in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London's "Good Design Guide", a collection of the "100 most beautiful products in the world". It is also exhibited by New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) as a masterpiece of design, alongside other industrial objects which ash defied time.
The stainless steel blade takes and holds a good edge. A collar on the beechwood handle is rotated to lock the blade in either open or closed positions. The locking blade makes it a safer knife to use.
The Opinel Corkscrew knife combines a 3.9 inch blade with a professional quality 5 turn corkscrew. This length is gererally considered the best option for opening fragile corks. This is a perfect knife for opening a bottle of wine, slicing some cheese and sausage. Note that the blade should be in its locked-closed position while using the corkscrew.
Made in France.
