Description: This exceptional chef's knife won "Best Culinary Implement" at The Collectors Show in Napa, 2006. The blade was hand forged from O1 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment is clearly visible in the differential hardness line approximately one half way up the blade. This results in a soft, supportive spine and an extremely hard, long lasting edge. The bolster is integral -- a technique that, while common in production knives, is very rare in handmade knives due to the difficulty of implementation. The handle is formed from California walnut and shows off spacers formed from fileworked copper surrounded by nickel silver. The result is very dramatic. The knife has perfect balance and feels exceptional in the hand. Clearly, Mastersmith Christoph Deringer well-understands the details of a high end chef's knife!
