Description: Mardi Meshejian has a unique vision that is immediately captivating and recognizable. His work easily fulfills my most important requirements for artwork – that the artist creates unique, one-of-a-kind creations, yet his work forms a unified gestalt.
The cleaver blade was forged to shape from 1095 and 4130 carbon steels. The metal has been sculpted and carved in organic themes. A textured copper guard separates the blade from the artifact handle. The handle is formed from a fossil walrus ivory firestarter. In the early 1800s, such tools were carved and utilized by the native peoples of Alaska. The indentation on the right side of the handle was used as a friction point to start fires. Mardi has used this as the location for his titanium pin. The handle has been sculpted so as to fit comfortably in the hand, yet maintain the original essence of the artifact. Exceptional work throughout!
