Description: Journeyman Smith David Lisch created this exceptional chef's knife. The 9 inch long damascus blade is forged to shape from David's feather pattern damascus. By forging closely to shape, he creates an optimal grain structure (performance) and creates a pattern that follows the shape of the blade (dramatic as all heck!). Showing his tremendous skill at the forge, the bolster is integral. Though this technique is regularly done in production knives, forging an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best. The central quill of the feather travels from the bolster to the tip in an undulating damascus pattern.
The handle is formed from presentation grade curly koa. The 'Coke bottle' style handle swells at the palm, moving into a slimmer waist, and swelling again at the pommel for a comfortable, sure grip in either a pinch grip of by holding the handle directly. Alternating black fiber and copper spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The copper brings out warm tones in the stabilized koa wood. By using stabilized woods, Lisch ensures the knife will hold up well to the high demands of either a professional or home kitchen.
David is clearly a maker to watch for his culinary knives!
