Description: California knifemaker, Don Carlos Andrade, makes some very unique and exceptional knives, for use inside the kitchen and in the outback wilds. Don recently finished this wonderful camp knife, which is perfect out in the field or for use as a heavy chef's knife in the kitchen.
Forged out of some of Aldo's 1095 carbon steel, the blade features contrasting finishes with rustic file-finished details high on the bevels and the fine gunome hamon below (gently undulating differential heat treatment line). The heat treatment line is created by coating the blade with clay prior to quenching. It shows the transition from hard edge steel to the soft, supportive spine. This technique, which is used in making Japanese swords produces some of the keenest, longest lasting edge found anywhere. The hefty blade is nicely balanced by the full tang.
This knife features some very nice goncalo alves wood handles with detailed carvings and hammer finished bronze pins. It will work well as a heavy duty chopping knife and is a very tough and versatile knife, with excellent fit and finish throughout!
