Description: This knife is a collaboration between Bhakti Sa and Journeyman Smith David Lisch. Bhakti has been apprenticing under David Lisch and it is clear he has been working hard. His understanding of chef's knives is exceptional. David's control over damascus, as shown in this dramatic chef's knife, is amazing. His control and skill produces patterns that are uncompromisingly clean and controlled. Because David and Bhakti collaborated on this knife, the knife is marked with both of their maker's marks. It is the only knife they plan to mark in this way.
David created the complex damascus and forged the blade to shape. The blade and bolster are all made from one solid piece of his feather pattern damascus. Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best. By using three different carbon steels, David has ensured a subtle complexity to the steel that is immediately captivating. The blade was ground and completed by Bhakti.
Bhakti Sa formed the elegantly contoured handle from spalted maple. The workmanship is beautiful, and the wood chosen is gorgeous! Black spalting lines travel across the swirlingfigure.Contours ensure a comfortable and safe grip. Alternating silicon bronze and black G10 spacers set between the handle and integral bolster assist the wood to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. By using stabilized woods, Lisch and Sa ensure the knife will hold up well to the high demands of either a professional or home kitchen.
A gorgeous piece built for serious use, yet one of the more dramatic kitchen knives that I have come across.
