Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burk introduced me to his work.
The 5-1/4 inch blade is meticulously satin finished. It is formed from high performing RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL 34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to chipping.
The handle is formed from ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. A bronze guard is perfectly fit to blade and handle. Black fiber spacers surround a larger ancient mammoth ivory spacer, adding a nice contrast.
The knife is accompanied by a pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
