Description: This is an exceptional knife by Mastersmith Joe Flournoy. Joe started making knives in 1977 and joined the Knifemakers' Guild in 1979. He was taught basic forging by Bill Moran and became a master smith in 1992. He has won numerous awards including Best Hand Forged Knife (Blade Show, 1991 & 1993), Moran Award - Knife of the Year (1993), Best Damascus Design (Blade Show, 1995). His work, which comes out of his country blacksmith's forge, is sure to be enjoyed for a lifetime. This knife was in a private collection. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances it could have been made yesterday.
The blade was forged to shape from 1084 carbon steel. A convex grind produces precision cutting with lots of strength behind it. A differential heat treatment results in a hard, keen edge, with a soft supportive spine. A hand rubbed satin finish lends an heirloom quality.
The mortised tang handle is formed from curly maple wood with two Corby rivets.
This knife is designed for a variety of chores. The handle has great ergonomics and the knife's size make it comfortable to wear all day.
