Description: This elegant chef's knife was made by Brent Stubblefield, founder of Join or Die Knives. Stubblefield is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He has lived with his family in Richmond, Virginia since 2009. He started as a hobbyist knifemaker in the early 2000s -- inspired by the combined skills of woodworking, metalsmithing, and leatherworking -- and founded Join or Die Knives in 2014. Join or Die Knives derives its name from Ben Franklin's famous woodcut published in his Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754. Franklin's message was that it takes vulnerability to be a community, which is why Stubblefield creates knives -- helping others to come together, build up, and grow stronger together. Stubblefield was featured in Season 2 of Forged in Fire.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long blade is well suited for slicing vegetables and meats. The gentle arc of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking, chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board. Whether chopping fruits and vegetables, or slicing meats, this chef's knife will do it all.
The blade was forged from Brent's own san mai. An ultra-high performance 52100 carbon steel core is sandwiched between layers of 420 stainless steel, ensuring the best performance, but easier care. The transition between the stainless sides and carbon steeel core is particularly dramatic. Because this blade incorporates carbon steels, we recommend camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation.
The Japanese-inspired ambidextrous handle combines presentation grade snakewood (Brosimum guianense) with an ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) ferrule. The front of the handle is sealed with a thin satin finished stainless steel cap.
This is an exceptional chef's knife that is sure to become a favorite for either a professional or home cook.
