Description: South African bladesmith Jonny Kable hails from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. His work is exceptional.
This chef's utility is sure to become a family heirloom. A utility knife is between a chef’s knife and a paring knife, with a narrower and straighter blade. This makes it perfect for a multitude of small tasks where more precise cuts are needed, such as trimming broccoli, green beans, or other smaller vegetables. Some cooks like to use it in their hand, too—almost like a large paring knife. Others like its smaller size as an alternative to the chef’s knife. Utility knives are sometimes called sandwich knives because they work well on almost everything that goes into a sandwich—from thin-skinned vegetables such as tomatoes, to meats and cheeses.
The long, slender blade was forged from Kable's own damascus. It is a pattern he created that he calls "Charlotte's Web". The modified explosion pattern is immediately captivating. The blade is hollow ground for a precise edge that is easily re-sharpened.
The handle is contoured from walnut wood. Fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
This slicer is accompanied by a custom ostrich leather sheath to protect the knife while transporting.
Absolutely tremendous!
