Description: South African bladesmith Jonny Kable hails from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. His work is exceptional.
This slicer was a highlight of the South African Knifemakers Guild Show. It is sure to become a family heirloom. It is well suited to slicing roasts and ham as well as portioning fish due to the thin, long blade. Extremely sharp, the long blade allows you to slice with one long stroke, instead of sliding the knife back and forth in a sawing motion. The result is a superior, clean cut.
The long, slender blade was forged from Kable's own damascus. It is a pattern he created that he calls "Spider's Last Moments". The pattern is immediately captivating. The guard is integral, showing exceptional skill at the forge. Few bladesmiths are capable of forging an integral guard.
The handle is contoured from ebony wood (Diospyros crassiflora). Light toned accents are formed from ancient woolly mammoth ivory. This ivory is from the inner core of the tusk. It is near cream toned with hints of caramel. Fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
This slicer is accompanied by a hand built yellowwood (Podocarpus latifolius) saya. This pinned wood sheath will keep this slicer safe for transport and when not in use.
Absolutely tremendous!
