Description: Rucus Coetzee began making knives in 2010 when he started working at Heavin Forge under ABS Mastersmiths Kevin Harvey and Heather Harvey. He began forging blades immediately, and joined the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern African in September of 2011 (making him -- at the age of 20 -- the youngest maker ever -- an honor previously held by Kevin Harvey). In 2013, he started his own workshop and began creating many different styles of knives and blades from hunting knives to kitchen knives, though Rucus' interest in bladesmithing comes from his love for history and historical weapons. He spends a lot of time researching these weapons, then creates one of his own. They are never 100% copies of originals. Instead, he tries to introduce his own style into the historically inspired piece. This knife was in a private collection since it was made and by all appearances it is in brand new condition. Rucus could have made it yesterday!
This elegant Damascus Carving knife will be an exceptional choice -- whether slicing meats in the kitchen or carving a roast or turkey at the table. It is a tremendous knife and will surely become a family heirloom.
The 7.8 inch blade was hand forged, combining 356 layers of carbon steels into an intricate raindrop pattern.
The handle is contoured from African wild olivewood (Olea europeae sub sp. Africana) with a rooibos wood (Aspalathus linearis) spacer. The combination provides great contrast. The copper bolster seals the front of the handle. Vulcanized spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
This elegant Damascus Carving Knife is sure to become a family treasure.
