Description: Warren Wall is a talented maker from Utah who began his venture into bladesmithing back in 2014. Before becoming a bladesmith, he spent over a decade working in the professional kitchens of many different restaurants. He's worked every position from dishwasher to executive chef, so naturally this led to his love and understanding of high performance kitchen knives. His family home has a small 3/4 acre orchard with pear, apricot, apple, peach, and plum trees. His workshop is tucked in the corner of this orchard, hence the name, Orchard Forge. Today Warren forges a bit of everything from knives for the kitchen to camp and hunting knives, and even small axes or hatchets on occasion. This up-and-coming maker is defintely one to keep an eye on and we are very excited to feature his work!
Paring knives are a must-have for every kitchen. You can think of it as the mini version of the chef's knife because, like the chef's knife, the paring knife is quite versatile. The paring knife gets its name from its main function—removing or “paring” away things like peels or pits from fruits and vegetables. It’s ideal for peeling, coring, trimming, decorating, and other detail work. Its small size gives you complete control over the tip and edge of the blade. Generally, you'll use this knife in your hand rather than against a cutting board, though paring knives can also be used for chopping small foods, such as garlic cloves or ginger.
The 4 inch blade is made from Warren's own river pattern damascus forged from 240 layers of 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. It is extremely sharp and will have great edge retention. The spine is gently rounded for comfort.
The rounded handle is formed from dyed and stabilized maple secured to the hidden tang with a brass pin. A black buffalo horn spacer complements the handle nicely. A brass ferrule centers the weight of the knife and brings warmth to the dark toned handle. The ambidextrous handle is perfect for those preferring a slightly thinner handle. We recommend using camellia oil to oil the carbon steel blade and natural material handles.
Nice work throughout!
