Description: Warren Wall is a talented maker from Utah who began his venture into bladesmithing back in 2014. Before becoming a bladesmith, he spent over a decade working in the professional kitchens of many different restaurants. He's worked every position from dishwasher to executive chef, so naturally this led to his love and understanding of high performance kitchen knives. His family home has a small 3/4 acre orchard with pear, apricot, apple, peach, and plum trees. His workshop is tucked in the corner of this orchard, hence the name, Orchard Forge. Today Warren forges a bit of everything from knives for the kitchen to camp and hunting knives, and even small axes or hatchets on occasion. This up-and-coming maker is defintely one to keep an eye on and we are very excited to feature his work!
The gyuto is modeled after the French pattern chef's knife. Longer and slimmer than the santoku, it is a great general purpose chef's knife. The long blade is needed for the sawing motion required to cut meats. The curved blade edge is perfect for a rocking chop. A triangular K-tip results in a detail oriented, yet stronger tip than the standard gyuto. This knife is sure to become the goto knife in your kitchen.
Warren hand forged the damascus blade from 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. By using carbon steels, Wall ensures the blade will have exceptional edge retention. A random pattern at the spine moves into multiple linear alternating layers of steel. The pattern is extremely enaging and flows into the integral damascus bolster. An integral bolster, while common in production knives, requires tremendous skill in a custom environment. It brings weight into the center of the knife and ensures superior strength and durability. Warren's maker mark is on the top of the bolster.
The handle is formed from stabilized, black dyed maple burl and box elder burl. It is carved to provide a comfortable grip - swelling at the palm, moving into a slimmer waist, and swelling again at the end of the handle. Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
Excellent work throughout!
