Description: David Tuthill has been a blacksmith for decades, creating elegant ornamental work. Over the last few years, his attention to detail and skills in the forge have quickly brought him to create world class chef's knives.
This petite santoku made by Tuthill will be an exceptional multipurpose knife. From mincing and chopping garlic or chives, to performing paring tasks, this will be your go-to knife! The blade height gives plenty of clearance over a cutting board, while the 5 inch blade is easy to maneuver.
The damascus blade is forged from 1095 carbon steel with Cummins diesel valve springs. The bold damascus pattern is extremely engaging. Tuthill nicely rounded the spine for comfort. Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
The Japanese-inspired half octagonal handle is formed from dyed and stabilized big leaf maple. The ambidextrous handle is faceted at the top and rounded at the base, resulting in a comfortable, ambidextrous, elegant shape that is pleasing to the eye and hand. The handle affords ergonomic control and comfort -- even when used for many hours. This Japanese handle shape, while being different from Western handles quickly becomes a favorite. The ferrule is made from Arizona desert ironwood. Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is one of the most desirable woods used in custom knifemaking. The warm toned wood is exceptionally dense and holds up beautifully in either a home or commercial kitchen. The handle is finished with a brass spacer surrounded by a black and red spacer.
Excellent work throughout!
