Description: C. Luis Pina is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of culinary knives that is rarely found in bladesmiths.
Bunka are general purpose knives used for a wide range of common kitchen tasks. These can be used any time a chef's knife is called for. The triangular tip results in a detail oriented, yet stronger tip than the gyuto. From chopping to slicing, bunka are a tremendous general purpose knife in the kitchen.
The blade on this bunka was hand forged to shape from W1 carbon steel. A forced mustard patina provides some rust resistance and tremendous beauty. The convex edge will assist with food release and the rounded spine provides comfort when using a pinch grip.
The handle is contoured from stabilized spalted curly koa wood, perfectly fit to the integral bolster. Brass and black fiber spacers add a nice contrast. Integral bolsters have superior structural integrity but require a particularly talented smith to make one in a custom setting. The bolster is contoured to encourage a comfortable pinch grip, though the handle is aso exceptionally comfortable when held further back. The handle is carved to swell at the palm, move into a slimmer waist and swell again at the end of the handle.
This is a knife you won't want to put down!
