Description: Andreas Kalani creates knives that celebrate the natural beauty of steel. Within every one of Kalani's custom knives, are the elements of life lasting quality and performance. Andreas worked with Journeyman Smith Mike Tyre. He is a member of the Southern California Blades Knife Collectors Club, California Knifemakers Association and is currently working to achieve his journeyman smith credentials. Each unique knife made by Kalani is an extension of himself and his vision.
The blade shape on this chef's knife is based on the Japanese Santoku. Like a chef's knife, the santoku is a multipurpose knife used for just about every cutting job in the kitchen. The name means “three virtues.” Depending on who you ask, this refers either to the three types of foods it works especially well with — vegetables, proteins, and fruit, or for the three types of cuts at which it excels: slicing, dicing, and chopping. There's plenty belly curve to enable rocking cuts, which enhances the knife's versatility. This comfortable knife will do it all.
The blade is high performing AEB-L stainless steel. Many knifemakers and metallurgists feel that AEB-L, with its small crystalline size, tremendous edge stability and toughness, is among the best stainless steels used in knifemaking today. AEB-L was developed for razor blades with a very fine grain structure making it easy to sharpen while maintaining good edge holding capabilities. The sides of the blade are laser engraved with a Sahara Desert scene.
The Natural Galaxy transparent handle combines resin with natural materials. Various desert plants are preserved in hand poured and cured resin, then shaped to create a 'looking glass into a mesmerizing journey of the natural galaxy'. The faceted handle provides a sure comfortable grip and feels comfortable whether grasped by the handle or held in a pinch grip. G-10 bolsters and Micarta spacers complete the handle.
A stand handmade by Kalani is included to display this knife proudly whether in the kitchen or in a private collection.
Excellent work throughout!
