Description: C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. He apprenticed under Mastersmith David Lisch. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of culinary knives that is rarely found in other bladesmiths.
Chef's knives are the general purpose knife in the kitchen. From slicing tomatoes to chopping onions and mincing garlic, this knife will get the task done perfectly. It is sure to be a kitchen favorite.
Pina began forging this integral chef's knife beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The bold mosaic pattern damascus is immediately captivating and draws attention for closer examination. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation. By forging closely to shape, he ensures optimal grain structure for a keen, long lasting edge.
The bolster is fully integral to the blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith. Pina, who specializes in this technique is clearly up to the task.
The handle is presentation grade stabilized Tasmanian blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon), This dramatic wood is an Acacia species native in South eastern Australia. It has a dramatic figure similar to curly koa and ringed gidgee (also Acacia species). The stabilized wood will hold up well to the demands of either a professional or home kitchen. Alternating black G10 and nickel silver spacers assist the handle adjust to humidity and temperature changes in the kitchen. This is sure to become your goto knife in the kitchen.
Excellent work throughout!
