Description: David Tuthill has been a blacksmith for many years, creating elegant ornamental work. Over the last several years, his attention to detail and skills in the forge have brought him to create truly world class chef's knives.
This knife will be a perfect 'go to' knife in the kitchen. The 8 inch blade is a perfect size and shape to get most any task done exceptionally well. A gentle arc to the blade's edge makes this a perfect knife for both a rocking chop and a forward slice. Whether chopping onions, slicing tomatoes, mincing parsley, or portioning and slicing meats, this elegant chef's knife has you covered!
Tuthill forged the blade from his own highly complex mosaic damascus, combining 1080, 15n20, and W1 carbon steels with a chainsaw chain. The dramatic pattern is extremely engaging and encourages further examination. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort. A Fujiwara-inspired finger notch allows you to choke up on the blade for more control.
The bolster is integral to the blade with the damascus pattern flowing uninterrupted. Creating such a complex pattern with an integral guard shows David's tremendous skill at the forge.
The hand contoured beefwood handle has elegant, angular grinds that encourages a pinch grip, though it is also comfortable in a handle-grip. The silicon bronze and vulcanized paper spacers will help the handle adjust to humidity and temperature changes in the kitchen. Because this knife is made from carbon steels we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and natural wood handle.
Exceptional work throughout! I can't say enough good things about this knife.
