Description: Ch'ien Turner (born in 2001) is a young, extremely talented South African bladesmith. He made his first knife at age 14 with the help of De Wet Van Zyl. At the time, he lived just down the street from De Wet and was able ask him constant questions. A friendship blossomed, and by 15, Van Zyl took him on as a part time apprentice. At 20, Turner began working full time with Van Zyl. Ch'ien has an exceptional grasp of forging, chef's knives, and even art knives. When Ch'ien presented his work at the 2022 Durban Easter Knife Show, he won seven awards, including, Best New Maker, Best Novice Hunter, Best Novice Forged, Best Novice Fighter, Best Novice Bird and Trout, and Best Novice Set. This is the chef's knife that won Best Novice Kitchen Knife at the 2022 Durban Easter Knife Show.
This 7-2/3 inch chef's knife is a perfect all-purpose blade ideal for a wide variety of cutting tasks—slicing, dicing, and chopping small to medium-sized fruits, vegetables, and other foods. With its curved belly, this chef's knife can also be gently "rocked" through fresh herbs or spices to produce a very fine mince.
The blade was forged from Ch'ien's own damascus steel. Turner combined three different steels to create the dramatic blade. Because it is forged from carbon steels, it should still be dried off and oiled after use. The flat ground blade will effortlessly slice through foods.
Dyed and stabilized curly maple handle scales are set on a distal tapered full tang for strength and durability. Fiber spacers add nice contrast and assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The ambidextrous Western-style handle provides a sure grip that will remain comfortable after hours of use. The front of the handle is sealed with brass bolster.
Exceptional work throughout! This knife is sure to become a kitchen favorite.
