Description: David Tuthill has been a blacksmith for many years, creating elegant ornamental ironwork. Over the last few years, his attention to detail and skills in the forge have quickly brought him to create world class chef's knives.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. Whether slicing, chopping, mincing, or dicing, this comfortable knife will do it all. The gentle arc of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chop with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board.
The 8-1/2 inch blade is forged from David's own phoenix feather pattern damascus combining 1085, 1080, and 15n20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The blade is high contrast and extremely engaging. The complex pattern is one of the most dramatic feather variations I have encountered. The slightly curved bolster accommodates a comfortable pinch grip. The spine and choil are rounded for a comfortable grip. David's touchmark is on the right side of the blade.
The bolster is integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith. The front of the bolster is nicely curved to encourage a comfortable pinch grip.
The contoured handle is stabilized beefwood (Grevillea striata). An antique wrought iron spacer separates the handle and damascus blade. The contoured handle provides a comfortable grip. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Exceptional work throughout – easily among Tuthill’s masterpieces!
