Description: This paring knife was made by Seattle native, Bhakti Sa. Bhakti was an apprentice under Mastersmith David Lisch and it is clear he has developed the eye and talent for forging high quality knives. Bhakti's understanding of chef's knives is exceptional and clearly shows the influence of both Mastersmith David Lisch and Mareko Maumasi. This is sure to be a favorite in the kitchen!
This high-performance paring knife is a perfect choice for detail-oriented tasks such as slicing garlic, taking the eyes out of potatoes and the heads off strawberries. It is one of the most important knives in the kitchen, second only to your all-purpose chef's knife or santoku.
Bhakti forged the laddered W's damascus from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The high contrast pattern is extremely engaging. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort. Bhakti's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. We recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The bolster is integral to the blade with the damascus pattern flowing uninterrupted from blade into the bolster. Creating an integral bolster in a custom setting requires a particularly talented smith.
The handle is walnut wood contoured to provide a comfortable grip. The handle swells at the palm before moving into a slimmer waist. Alternating black fiber and copper spacers will help the natural wood adjust to humidity and temperature changes. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
