Description: This meat cleaver was hand forged by Rhode Island bladesmith Josh Prince. Josh’s work combines high functionality with artistry to create knives that are sure to become a family heirloom. Josh creates knives that carry a natural, organic flow in their shapes. He skillfully uses negative space in his damascus patterns to create visual depth and dynamic movement, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and functionality. While artistic, his knives are highly functional and designed to last a lifetime.
Meat cleavers are ideal for chopping down large cuts of meat, light bones and hearty vegetables. Having a meat cleaver for heavier tasks ensures your primary knife used in the kitchen always stays in tip-top shape.
The blade is forged from Josh's own mosaic damascus, combining carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. Explosion damascus plug welds are surrounded by dark carbon steel. Damascus tendrils travel the void space around the welds. This complex pattern is extremely engaging and will have you staring at the blade for hours. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort. Josh's touchmark is engraved on the right side of the blade. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade from rust.
The blade moves seamlessly into an integral bolster. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith.
The handle is sculpted African blackwood. African blackwood is one of the densest woods in the world, highly prized for its jet-black appearance. It will hold up exceptionally to the harsh demands of a professional kitchen. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
