About the instructor: Mastersmith Bill Burke resides in the mountains above Boise, ID. Since 1998, he has been forging and grinding hunting and chef’s knives. Over the years, Burke built a reputation for creating the highest performance knives found anywhere. He developed a heat treatment technique for 52100 carbon steel that achieves smaller grain structure and keener edges than modern metallurgical science thought was possible. Bill became a journeyman smith in 2003 and was honored to join the ranks of master smiths in 2008. He has won numerous awards at knife shows around the world and his knives are regularly seen in publications including Knives Annual, Knives Illustrated, and Blade Magazine. He was also honored to be featured in Black Ink Magazine.
