Description: This exceptional damascus chef's knife was made by Ohio bladesmith Justin Chenault. Justin started making knives in 2005. His first foray into smithing was in a high school class where he was tasked with forging a hatchet for camping. After graduating high school, Justin assembled the basics of his own blacksmith's shop. He quickly joined the Southern Ohio Forge Associate (SOFA) which helped him connect with other smiths. Justin is a journeyman smith with the American Bladesmith Society. He won Season 7, Episode 6 of Forged in Fire, proving his skills on national television. This Mosaic Damascus Chef's Knife is among his master works to date!
The 8-1/4 inch mosaic damascus blade was hand forged from 1095 and 15n20 carbon steels. The intricate pattern is extremely detailed and shows Justin's skills at their best. A deep etch gives the steel plenty of contrast and will assist with food release. The flat ground blade provides excellent chip resistance and is razor sharp. Justin's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The Japanese inspired handle is hand contoured Arizona desert ironwood. Ironwood is among the most desirable woods used in custom knives. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! Antiqued bronze bolsters are nicely sculpted to comfortably accommodate a pinch grip. This knife is sure to become a kitchen favorite. You won't want to put down!
Excellent work throughout!
