Description: Frank Edwards began his journey into knifemaking in 2009 and started forging in 2011. He joined the American Bladesmith Society in 2017 and has taken classes from some of the greats in the custom knife world including mastersmiths Bill Burke and Rick Dunkerley. In a relatively short time, Frank is creating world class knives that rival those made by his teachers. Lately he has been focusing on some high performance chef knives and the results have been exceptional.
This utility knife is a great compromise between a chef's knife and a paring knife. This makes it perfect for a multitude of small tasks where precise cuts are needed, such as trimming broccoli, green beans, or other smaller vegetables. Some cooks like to use it in their hand, too — almost like a large paring knife. Others like its smaller size as an alternative to the chef’s knife. Utility knives are sometimes called sandwich knives because they work well on almost everything that goes into a sandwich — from thin-skinned vegetables such as tomatoes, to meats and cheeses.
The blade is hand forged 52100 carbon steel and features a hand rubbed satin finish. Many knifemakers as well as knife users feel that 52100 is among the best (if not the best) steel used in the modern knife industry. It provides an exceptionally keen, long lasting edge. Frank's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is Hawaiian koa (acacia koa), secured to the full tang using two stainless steel pins. This durable wood is only found on the Hawaiian islands and is one of the most desired woods used in knifemaking. The scales are perfectly fit to polished 416 stainless steel bolsters. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
