Description: This elegant chef’s knife is the creation of Tre' Hill of 3rdhillcustoms. Tre' (b. 1982) hails from Powder Springs, GA, where he and his wife (a part time potter), live on a 10 acre Muscovy duck farm. For the past four years, when not raising ducks, he has been hidden in his forge, honing his skills. He has always enjoyed working with his hands -- whether working on cars or building things -- and developing the skills to make knives seemed to come naturally. He specializes in chef's knives and folders.
This chef’s knife will be a perfect choice as your go to knife in the kitchen. The long blade will effortlessly slice through meats and vegetables while the tall profile provides plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board. Whether chopping onions, mincing parsley, or slicing meats, this knife will be the perfect choice.
The broad damascus san mai blade combines nickel damascus sides with a high performance Aogami 2 carbon steel core. Alternating copper layers set around the core add dramatic accent. Both the spine and choil are nicely rounded for a comfortable grip with no hot spots. The blade features a shinogi-grind to help release food from the side of the knife when slicing.
The handle is inspired by traditional Japanese handles. The base is rounded while the top is faceted. The handle is antique Westinghouse Micarta. This Micarta was developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation. This light toned Micarta was lost in a warehouse and only recently discovered. The top shows the beautiful yellowing with age that makes this unique Micarta so captivating. A multi colored resin ferrule adds a splash of color and seals the front of the handle. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
