Description: C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of culinary knives that is rarely found in bladesmiths.
This 9 inch chef's knife will quickly become a kitchen favorite. The 9" blade is a perfect choice for slicing meats, vegetables, and fruits. Whether chopping mincing, or slicing, this is sure to be your goto knife.
Pina began forging this integral damascus blade beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The mosaic damascus pattern is immediately captivating. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation. By forging closely to shape, he ensures optimal grain structure for a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is beautifully thin for clean, precise cuts.
The bolster is integral to the blade with the damascus pattern seamlessly flowing between. Integral bolsters have superior structural integrity and require a particularly talented smith.
The handle is hand contoured from ancient bog oak, perfectly fit to the integral bolster. This wood has been buried in a bog for hundreds or sometimes thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protect the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. Black G-10 and brass spacers will help the natural wood adjust to humidity and temperature changes. The bolster is contoured to encourage a comfortable pinch grip, though the handle is also exceptionally comfortable when held further back. The handle is carved to swell at the palm, move into a slimmer waist and swell again at the end of the handle.
This is a knife you won't want to put down!
Excellent work throughout!
