Description: This fork and knife set was handmade by Jurgen Schanz of Stutensee, Germany. I was very excited when Andre Thorburn introduced me to his friend Jurgen at the 2018 East Coast Custom Knife Show. Seeing Thorburn's respect for Schanz' skills, immediately drew my attention.
At 18, Schanz began his apprenticeship in Esslingen and in 1992 he received the German National Tradesman Prize. Three years later, he qualified as a master smith with merit. In 1995, he was admitted as one of just over 100 members to the German Knife Makers' Guild, where is now vice president.
Both the fork and knife were made from SB1 stainless steel. Back in 2006, German knifemakers Jürgen Schanz and Lars Behnke were searching for a high performing niobium steel. When they eventually found the steel that would eventually be known as SB1, they began to call is S (Schanz) B (Behnke), 1 (for number one choice). This high performance stainless steel will hold an exceptional edge. This knife features a small serration to make effortless slicing of even the toughest steak.
Resilient black G-10 scales are set on the full tang for strength and durability. The scales are set with stainless steel pins and a stainless tube.
Both the knife and fork are perfectly balanced and demand to be used.
Exceptional work throughout!
