Description: This knife was made by Seattle native, Bhakti Sa. Bhakti apprenticed under Mastersmith David Lisch. Bhakti's understanding of chef's knives is exceptional and clearly shows the influence of both Mastersmith David Lisch and Mareko Maumasi.
This high performance paring knife is a perfect choice for detail tasks such as slicing garlic, taking the eyes out of potatoes and the heads off strawberries. It is one of the most important knives in the kitchen, second only to your all-purpose chef's knife or santoku.
Bhakti forged the laddered Ws pattern damascus beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. This ensures a keen long lasting edge as well as exceptional beauty! The high contrast pattern is immediately captivating. The blade and bolster are both made from one solid piece of damascus. Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best.
Bhakti Sa formed the elegantly contoured handle from stabilized big leaf maple harvested in Ballard, WA. The workmanship is beautiful, and the wood chosen is gorgeous! The dark toned wood has an underlying convoluted figure. Contours ensure a comfortable and safe grip. Alternating silicon bronze and G10 spacers set between the handle and integral bolster assist the wood to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. By using stabilized woods, Sa ensures the knife will hold up well to the high demands of either a professional or home kitchen.
A gorgeous piece built for serious use, yet among the most dramatic kitchen knives that I have come across.
