Description: Tom Ferry is a Mastersmith based in Western Washington. Though he is best known for his dramatic art knives, he also makes finely crafted use knives -- and this is a spectacular example of his use knives. The sheepsfoot parer has been in a single collection and does not appear to have ever been used to cut. It is in new condition.
This elegant little sheepsfoot paring knife was formed from S30V stainless steel. The nimble blade is a perfect choice for detail work or delicate cutting -- from taking the eyes out of potatoes to cutting the heads off strawberries and the veins out of bell peppers, this sheepsfoot parer is a great knife to choose. The wharncliffe style blade makes it particularly adept at slicing - and a leather sheath, complete with belt loop, makes it a great knife to carry when harvesting herbs or fruit in your garden or orchard.
The handle is formed from stabilized brown mallee burl (Eucalyptus Socialis), contoured to a smooth oval and sculpted near the bolter, providing a comfortable thumb rest. Mallee is the name given to a species of Australian eucalyptus which grow multiple stems from one bulbous root stock. Mallee are comparatively small Eucalypts, the largest growing only to 10 meters in height. The wood has a warm tan tone with a wonderfully convoluted grain pattern. Excellent fit and finish!
